Privacy statement

Rivièra Maison respects its customers and customer privacy, which is why we are keen to explain how we handle personal data and the purposes for which we use it. We also explain your data protection rights. This Privacy and Cookie statement answers key questions on how Rivièra Maison processes personal data.

1. Whose personal data does Rivièra Maison process?

We process personal data of everyone who interacts with Rivièra Maison, such as customers, visitors to our stores and website, newsletter recipients, external partners, and job applicants.
If you are under the age of 16, you may only provide personal data to Rivièra Maison if one of your parents or a legal guardian has read this privacy statement and given consent on your behalf. If you do not have this consent, we ask you not to provide us with your data.
We never knowingly process personal data of individuals under the age of 16 without such consent. If you, as a parent or legal guardian, become aware that we have unknowingly processed your child’s data, you can request deletion of that data. See the section "What rights do I have regarding my data?"

4. Does Rivièra Maison also process particular personal data?

In order to safeguard both you and our stock, and for security reasons, we have camera surveillance in our shop.


5. How does Rivièra Maison process my personal data?

Rivièra Maison respects and protects your personal data. We follow these principles:

  • We treat your data confidentially
  • We do not store more data than necessary
  • We keep your data no longer than needed
  • We secure your data
  • We only engage carefully selected third parties
  • We store data primarily within the EU

We may share your data with third parties (delivery partners, service providers, etc.) only for service provision. They may not use the data independently. We may also share your data with authorities when legally required.
Our website includes links to partner sites. When visiting those, their privacy policies apply.

Data retention periods include:

  • CCTV footage: 4 weeks, unless an incident occurs
  • Invoice, payment, and order data: 7 years (tax law)
  • Loyalty program members: until cancellation

If data is transferred outside the EU, we use adequate protection measures in line with EU law or standard contracts approved by the European Commission.


6. Which rules must Rivièra Maison comply with in the processing of personal data?

When processing personal data Rivièra Maison must comply, among others, with the:

7. Which personal data does Rivièra Maison process for me? 

We believe it is important that you know what Personal Data we collect from you and what we do with it. We collect and process your Personal Data for the following purposes:

Below, we explain the purposes and explain which personal data we process and on what basis.

1. Online orders, store purchases and returns

We process your personal data to process orders (via the webshop or app), store purchases and returns, and to inform you about the delivery status. To do this, we enter into an agreement with you and require the following information:

  • Account details (for orders placed via the website or app)
  • Contact details such as name, address, telephone number, email address)
  • Billing details
  • Order details
  • Payment details
  • RM Exclusive membership (Member card)
  • Any other information you provide

All this information is necessary for the performance of the agreement. We store it for 7 years (statutory retention period).

 

2. Customer service

To answer questions, resolve complaints and warranty issues, and provide technical support via email, chat, telephone and social media, we use:

  • Contact details (name, address, email, telephone number)
  • Any company details (company name, registered address)
  • (Social media) account details
  • Payment details
  • Order history
  • All correspondence

We may ask you to provide more personal data if we deem this necessary to answer your question or handle your complaint. The processing of the aforementioned (personal) data is necessary for the legitimate interests of Rivièra Maison. It is important for us to be able to respond to your question or request properly. The information obtained also enables Rivièra Maison to improve its customer service. We will retain the data for as long as you are a customer.

 

3. Competitions

If you participate in a competition, contest or promotion, we will process your personal data in accordance with the additional terms and conditions of the promotion. We use your data on the basis of your consent to:

  • Inform winners
  • Publish your name in a newsletter, on social media and on our website


For this purpose, we process:

 

  • Name
  • Address (in case of home delivery of a physical prize)
  • Contact details (e-mail, telephone number)
  • Information provided by you for the promotion, including possible photo and/or video material


If you participate in a competition via social media, we may, in collaboration with a partner, process the following additional data about you:

  • Profile information from the relevant social media platform

We store the data for this purpose for a maximum of 8 weeks after the end of the relevant promotion. The end date of the promotion is indicated in the terms and conditions of the promotion.

 

4. Product reviews

When writing reviews about our products, we collect:

  • Name or nickname
  • Summary
  • Review text
  • Score (price, quality, value for money)
  • Recommendation (‘I recommend this product’)

Reviews are posted on the basis of your consent. Reviews remain on the website until the product is discontinued or you withdraw your consent. To withdraw your consent, please contact our customer service.

5. Requesting vouchers from partner webshops

After placing an order in the webshop, you can opt for vouchers from partner webshops. If you agree to this, we will share the following data with Sovendus (voucher platform):

  • Title
  • Name
  • Postcode
  • Email
    Rivièra Maison has no insight into your voucher selection. For more information, please visit www.sovendus.nl. This information is shared based on your consent.

 

6. Participation in the RM Exclusive loyalty programme

Customers can take advantage of various extras offered by Rivièra Maison through the RM Exclusive loyalty programme. As a member of the loyalty programme, you have an account with access to your personal overview of loyalty points, vouchers and offers.


Based on an agreement, we process your data to manage points, vouchers and other benefits:

  • Registration data: digital Member Card number, email address, first name, surname
  • Optional: address, telephone number, gender, date of birth
  • Points and vouchers earned
  • Use of your Member Card (order details, vouchers redeemed)

 

We also use your data to:

Comply with the general terms and conditions of membership (account access, points registration, birthday gift)
Send information about our promotions and events
Inform you about voucher expiry dates

Rivièra Maison generally stores most of this data indefinitely until you unsubscribe from the loyalty programme. You can unsubscribe at any time via contact_us@riviera-maison.nl. Your account and stored points/vouchers will then be deleted.

You can change your details in your account yourself, with the exception of the details necessary for the account, and also change your settings for services and newsletters.

If you also receive our newsletter, you can unsubscribe from it via your account settings or the unsubscribe link.

We will store your data for as long as you are a member, after which we will delete or anonymise it, unless a longer retention period is required by law.

Participation in the RM Exclusive loyalty programme is always voluntary, i.e. you are free to decide whether you wish to place orders using your RM Exclusive customer account and enjoy the associated benefits.

As a Rivièra Maison Exclusive member, you will receive information emails from us with information relevant to you about the loyalty programme. We process your email address for this purpose on the basis of Rivièra Maison's legitimate interest in sending members emails with information relevant to them, such as changes to the loyalty programme or the expiry date of vouchers.

 

7. Improving our services

We evaluate and improve our products and services. We process the following data if you have chosen to share it with us:

  • Contact details such as name, address, email address and telephone number
  • Your questions and comments
  • Complaints
  •  Customer satisfaction survey responses

We retain your data for as long as you are a customer.

 

8. Business relationships

When contacting, negotiating or concluding agreements with business partners, we process personal data depending on the service provided, such as:

  • Basic information: name, address, contact details
  • Identification data: trade register extracts, signatures
  • Business and financial data: payment information, creditworthiness
  • Company information: structure and ownership data
  • We process this data on the basis of our legitimate interest.

9. Newsletter

As a subscriber, you will periodically receive an email with news, offers and tips. We use:

  • Email
  • Gender
  • Name
  • Date
    In principle, we store the aforementioned data for an indefinite period until you indicate that you no longer wish to receive our newsletter. If you no longer wish to receive newsletters, you can unsubscribe in your own RM account on the website or by using the unsubscribe option included in each newsletter.

 

10. Camera surveillance

Our shops are equipped with camera surveillance. As a visitor to our shop, you will be informed of this when you enter the shop. The cameras are clearly visible in our shops. The purpose of processing camera images is to protect our employees, customers and their property, to secure our buildings and our shop assortment, and to record incidents such as shoplifting. We have a legitimate interest in doing so. We have designed our camera system and associated process to minimise the impact on your privacy.

Images are stored for a maximum of 4 weeks, after which they are destroyed, unless there are good reasons to store the images for longer (e.g. in the interests of a police investigation).

 

11. Service emails and notifications

Service emails

We use your email address for order confirmations and non-commercial messages (e.g. service changes, security alerts). We process your email address based on our legitimate interest.

Notifications

With your consent, we send browser notifications about updates, offers or service changes. We store a unique browser ID and measure which messages you open. You can withdraw your consent at any time via your browser settings.

 


8. Can I see the personal data Rivièra Maison has processed about me?

Yes, you can. You can see the majority of the personal data we have processed about you via your My Account in our web shop. You can change your personal data at any time.

If you do not have a My Account and/or you would like to see all the personal data Rivièra Maison has processed about you, please submit a request. You can request to change (improve) and/or block your personal data. Your request can be submitted by email.

Rivièra Maison is obligated to delete your personal data once the statutory retention period has lapsed, or when we no longer require your details. In addition, you can submit a deletion request. If you would like your data to be deleted, you can email us. We will delete your details, barring in the following instances:

 

  • You have an active case with Customer Services;

  • You have an open order that hasn't yet, or has only been partially, delivered;

  • You have an outstanding payment due to Rivièra Maison, irrespective of the payment method;

  • The statutory retention period hasn't yet come to an end.

 

When we process your personal data further to your consent or further to processing an order, you can receive a copy of your data in a structured, generic and readable format. This only pertains to the personal data you have provided us with.

You can withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time. We block your personal data as soon as we receive your consent withdrawal. To withdraw your consent please email us.

Having subscribed to our newsletter, should you wish to do so, you can unsubscribe via the link at the bottom of each newsletter. You can do so at any time.

If you object to direct marketing, please follow the instructions to opt out in the marketing email we have sent you. We will unsubscribe you with immediate effect.
