A look inside the home of …
Nina Warink
Nina Warink, content creator and cookbook author, and her boyfriend Kelvin live in Amsterdam, but recently bought a second apartment in the heart of Groningen. Nina’s love for her hometown played a big role in that decision: “My friends and family live in Groningen, while my work and my love are in Amsterdam.”
Rivièra Maison helped furnish the apartment to truly turn it into a home. Thanks to the beautiful natural light, the focus in this Groningen apartment was placed on a light colour palette. A mix of modern beach and hotel chic fits perfectly here. By combining soft tones with golden accents and warm materials, the space feels welcoming, cosy and elegant.
Interview with Nina
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR INTERIOR STYLE?
“I would describe my interior style as Hotel Chic. A luxurious look with lots of golden accents and scented candles. But above all, it has to feel truly comfortable. That’s reflected in the beautiful Stephen sofa in our living room. Besides being a real eye-catcher, the sofa is wonderfully large and perfect for cosy evenings on the couch!”
DO YOU AND KELVIN EVER DISAGREE ABOUT INTERIOR STYLING?
“The nice thing is that my boyfriend Kelvin doesn’t interfere much with the interior, as long as it’s practical. I actually chose almost the entire interior myself, always keeping comfort in mind. And I think that worked out really well! Take the wallpaper in our bedroom, for example: a soft pink shade with a subtle leopard print here and there. Quite bold, but Kelvin loves it too because it creates that luxurious hotel feeling.”
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR HOME IN AMSTERDAM AND THE APARTMENT IN GRONINGEN?
“In our Amsterdam home we use a lot of darker colours and materials. But because this apartment has such beautiful views and incredible natural light, I really wanted to emphasise the airy feeling. We chose a light-coloured sofa, a soft rug and beautiful lamps in natural tones. That really makes the difference between our Amsterdam home and our Groningen apartment.”
WHICH PIECE OF FURNITURE OR ACCESSORY IS YOUR FAVOURITE?
“Kelvin’s favourite item is definitely the huge Stephen sofa, where he can completely stretch out and relax. We also have a matching ottoman, which is super practical. You can use it as a footrest or place a tray on top and turn it into a coffee table. My own favourite item is the large throw blanket on the sofa that I love curling up under every evening.”
RIVIÈRA MAISON’S MISSION IS TO TURN EVERY HOUSE INTO A HOME. WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL MOST AT HOME?
“For me, a home absolutely needs a large sofa where I can cuddle up with Kelvin. But also a big dining table where I can have dinner with all my girlfriends, plus personalised photo frames filled with memories of the people I love.”
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL WORKDAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU? DO YOU HAVE A FIXED WORKSPACE AT HOME?
“No workday is ever the same for me. As a content creator, I spend a lot of time online on my computer and phone. That’s why I work in many different places. If I’m not working somewhere else, I basically work all over the apartment, from the sofa to the dining table or even comfortably from bed.”
HOW DO YOU PREFER TO END YOUR WORKDAY?
“My favourite way to end the day is sitting at the large dining table in wonderfully comfortable dining chairs. And of course, a good glass of wine and some traditional Groningen dry sausage are essential!”
